Luxury Villa Rentals for 2+ people
Located along the northern coast of St Barts, St Jean is home to one of the longest white-sand beaches on the island, divided into two areas separated by the iconic Eden Rock. This is where the hillside meets the beachfront, giving rise to one of St Barts’ chicest beach scenes. And with their effortless style and sophistication, St Jean villas are emblematic of why this area makes for such a perfect place to stay on St Barts.
Originally a fishing stop for the Taino and Arawak people, St Jean became an agricultural zone in the colonial and free port era. By the 19th century, it transitioned into a sleepy fishing village. In 1950, St Jean was discovered by Remy de Haenen, a French aviator and adventurer, who built Eden Rock on the promontory dividing St Jean’s beach.
As St Barts evolved into a luxury destination from the 70s onward, St Jean evolved with it. Today, St Jean is the heart of St Barts’ beach scene, with sophisticated dining, pulsing nightlife, and stylish boutiques. It’s the perfect melding of French culture and Caribbean scenery, where luxury is a lived experience informed by a rich savoir-vivre.

Most travelers will fly into Princess Juliana International Airport in St Maarten. From there, you can take a 10-minute flight to St Barts’ Gustaf III Airport, which is situated just behind St Jean. The runway slopes down toward the sand, and your descent gives you a bird’s-eye view of the bay and Eden Rock. From the airport, your villa in St Jean is just minutes away.
High-speed ferries also run from St Maarten (45 minutes from Marigot or 1 hour from Philipsburg). While less dramatic than flying, the ferry offers sweeping Caribbean views and can be a more relaxed option for those who prefer to avoid small planes. St Jean is a 15-minute drive from Gustavia harbor.
Your Rental Escapes Concierge can help with rental cars, airport transfers, and any other transportation needs.
St Jean is very walkable. Most of our St Jean villas are just a short stroll to the beach, shops, and restaurants. The bay itself is compact and flat, making it easy to stroll from one end to the other.
If you want to explore beyond St Jean, then you’ll want to rent a car. St Barts is a small island, but it has some hilly roads, so driving is the best way to get around.
Taxis and private drivers are also available, but they should be arranged in advance.
Boat charters are also a great way to explore more of the coast, and it’s the best way to reach secluded coves like Colombier, Gouverneur, and Saline. You can also explore nearby marine reserves or spots like Anguilla’s Shoal Bay or Prickly Pear Cays.
Your Concierge can help with rental cars, private drivers, boat charters, and more.
Peak season in St Jean is from mid-December to April. The sea is calm, the weather is sunny and dry, and clubs and restaurants are in full swing. There are also plenty of events, like New Year’s Eve and the St Barts Music Festival. If you want to visit at this time, book early.
Shoulder season is from May to June and November to early December. The weather is still great, but with fewer crowds. Restaurants will still be open, but you’ll find more villa availability. For many, this is the best time to go.
Off season is from July to October. It’s the quietest time of the year and some restaurants and boutiques close. There’s also a possibility of tropical storms, though rain showers are often short-lived. Still, this is a great time to experience St Jean like a local and find great deals on St Jean villas.
Yes, St Jean is considered very safe. St Barts, in general, is one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean, with very low crime rates and a strong local community. Roads are also well-maintained, and the water is generally calm.
Take a private boat charter: Spend the day cruising around secluded coves like Colombier, stop for snorkeling at marine reserves, or hop across to Anguilla or St Maarten. Your Concierge can arrange everything, from a half-day sail to a full luxury charter with private chef and crew.
Enjoy water sports: Paddleboard on the calm eastern side, take kiteboarding lessons on the breezier west, or try windsurfing with an instructor. Rentals and lessons can all be coordinated ahead of time, so the gear is waiting for you at the beach.
Head to a beach club: Your Concierge can secure a table at hotspots like Nikki Beach or Eden Rock’s Sand Bar, where long lunches flow into sunset cocktails. Reservations are in high demand during peak season, and having them handled for you makes all the difference.
Food is a big part of what makes St Jean so special. Here you’ll find a blend of French sophistication and barefoot Caribbean charm.
From beachfront dining at the Sand Bar to the cafes and bakeries behind the beach, food here is prepared fresh and to a high standard. Plus, it’s all relatively condensed and walkable.
You’ll also find a good variety, including sushi bars, Italian trattorias, and Caribbean grills, all in a short distance. And, of course, there’s plenty of fresh seafood.
Prefer to stay in? Your Concierge can also arrange private chef service and grocery pre-stocking at any of our St Jean villas.
