Your Guide to Montana Luxury Rentals

With wide-open mountain ranges, crisp air, and starlit skies that go on forever, Montana is where you go to truly connect with nature. Montana luxury rentals deepen that connection with stays that are nestled in the heart of the mountains and designed for privacy and serenity.

For thousands of years, Montana has been home to the Apsáalooke (Crow), Salish, Kootenai, and Blackfeet peoples, and their traditions and sacred sites remain an essential part of the state. Later came the trappers, homesteaders, and cattle ranchers who helped shape Montana's rugged identity.

Today, that spirit lives on. You'll still find horses on open land, saloons with local beer, and working ranches offering five-star stays. You’ll also find Montana luxury rentals that honor and elevate this state’s deep connection to nature, in both their construction and decor.

Rental Escapes makes renting a luxury villa in Montana easy. First, choose your travel dates. Next, select your party size. From there, your Rental Escapes Villa Specialist will present the best available Montana luxury rentals for your group. After that, your Concierge customizes your trip, including transportation, chef service, excursions, lift passes, equipment rentals, and more.

    Luxury Vacation Rentals Montana

Rustic yet sophisticated, luxury vacation rentals in Montana elevate your stay with locations along the state’s most stunning landscapes. Think glorious mountain views, floor-to-ceiling windows, and patios with hot tubs so you can enjoy the crisp air.

You’ll find Montana luxury rentals all across the state, including in Big Sky Resort, with its world-class skiing and snowboarding; near Spanish Peaks Mountain Club, with its championship golf; Powder Ridge, with its classic mountain charm; Moonlight Basin, with its forested serenity; Cowboy Heaven, with its panoramic views; and more.

No matter where you choose, expect stays that emphasize craftsmanship and a refined mountain aesthetic. You’ll also find plenty of convenient amenities, including chef’s kitchens, hot tubs, and ski-in, ski-out access. You can also expect 5-star service, including from your Rental Escapes Concierge.

    Big Sky Luxury Rentals

In the heart of Montana’s mountain life, Big Sky luxury rentals offer perfect four-season stays for any group. They include:

    Cowboy Heaven Cabins

Some of the highest altitude stays in Montana, these Cowboy Heaven cabins let you truly escape into nature:

7 Mountain Home: With 4 well-appointed bedrooms, including a bunk bed room, 7 Mountain Home is a great choice for families. While the focus is on nature, there are plenty of modern amenities to enjoy, as well as a wood-burning fireplace for that perfect mountain ambiance.

Cowboy Heaven Luxury Suites: A truly high-end suite, this unit is richly decorated and offers a wealth of entertainment options. There’s a billiard table, a stone fireplace, a game table, a hot tub, a wet bar, and more.

9 Happy Trails: With ski-in ski-out access and stunning views, 9 Happy Trails allows you to enjoy the ultimate ski trip. Come summer, you’re perfectly located to enjoy Moonlight Basin’s hiking and biking network.

    Montana Luxury Rentals FAQ

    How to Travel to Montana?

Most visitors will fly into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. From there, it’s about a 1-hour drive to Big Sky.
Montana is also a dream road trip destination, whether you’re going east-west through I-90 or down along US-191.
Your Rental Escapes Concierge can help with airport transfers, rental cars, and any other transportation needs.

    How to Get Around Montana?

The best way to get around Montana is to have your own car. A car will give you the freedom to explore more of the area on your own.
If you’re flying in, renting an SUV is your best bet. Especially if you’re coming in the winter, you’ll want a car with 4WD or AWD, since the mountain roads can be steep. Some villas even require them.
Ride shares and private drivers are also available, and many resorts like Big Sky also have shuttle service.
Many excursion providers also offer door-to-door transportation for activities like fly fishing, horseback riding, rafting, or hiking.
Your Concierge can help with rental cars, private drivers, excursions, and more.

    Best Time to Visit Montana?

Peak season in Montana is from mid-December to March and again from July to early September. Winter sees peak skiing and snowboarding season, while summer sees hiking, rafting, horseback riding, and visits to Yellowstone.
Shoulder season is from April to early June and again from mid-September to late October. Spring sees the snow melt and the wildlife come alive. Fall, meanwhile, brings beautiful foliage and crisp air. Both are great times to visit.
Off season is from late October to early December. It’s too late in the year for summer fun, but the snow still hasn’t fallen. That said, it’s a quiet time to enjoy a mountain villa and take in the scenery with fewer tourists around.

Best Things to do in Montana?

Skiing and snowboarding in Big Sky: With over 5,800 acres and fewer lines than other resorts, Big Sky is one of the best places to ski or snowboard in the US. Your Concierge can help put together a complete ski package, including equipment rentals, lift tickets, and more.
Fly fishing the Gallatin and Yellowstone Rivers: Montana is home to plenty of clear water, rich with trout. Ask your Concierge to arrange a fly-fishing excursion for you and your group.
Hiking and wildlife viewing: Montana’s hiking trails offer endless variety. The trails around Beehive Basin, Ousel Falls, and the Spanish Peaks Wilderness are especially popular. Be on the lookout for moose, elk, eagles, and even the occasional bear.

    How’s the Food in Montana?

Montana’s food scene is wild, seasonal, and mountain-inspired. Dishes often feature local ingredients like grass-fed beef, bison, elk, and rainbow trout, often paired with root vegetables and mountain herbs.
You’ll also find huckleberry desserts in summer, and plenty of locally roasted coffee and microbreweries for you to enjoy.
If you prefer to stay in, your Concierge can arrange private chef service and villa pre-stocking on any of our Montana luxury rentals.

    How’s the Weather in Montana?

Spring in Montana is a season of transition, with snow still lingering in the mountains and rain beginning to green the valleys. Temperatures range from 35°F to 60°F (2°C to 16°C), with lower elevations warming faster than higher terrain like Big Sky. Rainfall increases during this time, averaging 1.5 to 2.5 inches (38 to 64 mm) per month. Expect a mix of sunny days, snow flurries, and muddy trails as the landscape wakes up.
Summer is Montana's driest and warmest season. Average highs range from 70°F to 85°F (21°C to 29°C), though cooler evenings dip into the 40s (4°C to 9°C), especially in mountain areas. Rain is light and usually brief, averaging 1 to 2 inches (25 to 51 mm) per month. This is the best time for hiking, fly fishing, and wildlife viewing in the high country.
Fall brings crisp air, golden aspens, and quieter trails. Early September often feels like a warm extension of summer, with highs in the 60s to 70s (16°C to 24°C), but by November, daytime temperatures can drop into the 30s and 40s (1°C to 9°C). Rainfall ranges from 1 to 2.5 inches (25 to 64 mm) per month, and snow may begin to fall by late October in higher elevations like Big Sky and Moonlight Basin.
Winter in Montana is cold and snowy, especially in mountain regions. Highs typically range from 20°F to 35°F (-6°C to 2°C), with nighttime lows often below 10°F (-12°C). Snowfall is steady, especially in resort areas like Big Sky, which can see well over 300 inches (7620 mm) annually. Monthly precipitation averages 1 to 2 inches (25 to 51 mm) of water equivalent, most of it falling as snow.
