The sultry allure of the British West Indies has entertained the fantasies of kings, conquerors, aristocrats and settlers for centuries. Now, most recently, tourists have taken advantage of the wealth of beauty and diverse activities available on the islands.

From your home base on Providenciales, or Provo, catch a scuba boat from your dock and explore part of the islands' 200 miles of pristine coral reef. Among the most renowned and largest reefs in the world, Turks & Caicos' has become Mecca for scuba divers and marine wildlife enthusiasts the world over. Explore these exquisite formations and swim with an array of exotic tropical fish, turtles, manta rays or friendly bottleneck dolphins, which have been known to approach both swimmers and divers.

Chalk Sound National Park lies close to your Elite villa; this expansive protected area covers half the island. Here, numerous birds hop, fly and leisurely stroll, making for great bird watching. Chalk Sound, the park's namesake and most pronounced feature, is a three-mile long bay of still, translucent waters. On the park's east side you will find rock carvings dating back to 1844 when shipwrecked sailors did their best to survive, immortalizing their names on Provo's cave walls. While there, be sure to really look around. The summit on which the carvings rest offers some of the most spectacular views of the islands and a postcard-perfect Chalk Sound photo opportunity.

Indulge in a day of shopping at one of Provo's three centers, each catering to your refined style with stores appealing to your most lavish desires. Of these, we recommend the Ports of Call area in Grace Bay. You will find plenty of shops and great people watching. Grab an ice cream cone from Giggles Ice Cream Parlor and enjoy the sunshine while browsing, and be sure to stop in Provo Dive shop for scuba and snorkeling gear before heading back to the villa.

Among the other activities, Provo also hosts the islands' only casino! Enjoy Vegas-style games with an island twist. The casinos offer transportation to and from any of the resorts around the island - great for those who make evening reservations at resort restaurants or want some excitement after an afternoon at the spa.

Food, one of the best parts of any vacation, takes many forms, flavors and varieties on Provo. The island offers restaurants perfect for a formal romantic evening, relaxing dining experiences and ocean front pier setups.
