As one of the Colorado Rockies' premier destinations, Aspen is one of those cities that every ski lover needs to experience at least once. Its history as a centre for mining and wood-cutting contrasts interestingly with its current position as a backyard for international jet setters, and while travelers love Aspen's many historic monuments, including visiting John Denver's grave, it's the skiing, the restaurants, and the shopping that keep travelers coming back for more. That's because its runs are some of the best in the state, with snowboarders and skiers alike loving its white-powder trails, while its wealth of restaurants and cafes ensure some of the best après-ski relaxation in the country. Aspen also boasts some top-notch shops, including designer boutiques from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, and Burberry. And while it's no surprise to see that there are many sprawling, ski-in/ski-out Aspen vacation rentals available, there are also smaller condos and townhouses available as well, ensuring that anyone can appreciate this luxurious bit of the Rocky Mountains.
If you're flying in, then you'll most likely be landing in Denver. To reach Aspen, you can opt for a flight to Sardy Field, a small airport three miles from downtown. The flight's about a half hour and is offered ten times a day from United Express. If you plan on having a car with you anyways, though, then renting a car from Denver can be a great way to reach Aspen vacation rentals. The drive is scenic and just may end up being a highlight of your trip, though be advised that it is between 4-5 hours, and you could face winter driving conditions. If you're OK with that, though, you'll also have the advantage of having a car with you throughout the duration of your trip, meaning you can check out nearby mountains and drive out to discover some truly breathtaking views.
Ski season in Aspen runs from November to April, with visiting in late and early season being a great way to take advantage of low rates on Aspen vacation rentals, as well as the warmer weather that just may let you ski in a t-shirt. If you're looking to go during holiday season, though, be advised that rentals do fill up fast around this time, so travelers are advised to book up early. Summertime in Aspen, meanwhile, is beautiful as well, as the city is home to some amazing hiking, mountain biking, and golfing, while prices on everything from rentals to restaurants can be considerably less expensive.
