Portugal Visitors Guide

Known for its history, its beauty and its friendly people, Portugal is Europe's westernmost nation, and also one of its most visited. From the cliff-lined coasts and sandy beaches of the Algarve to the UNESCO World Heritage sites that stretch all along the country, Portugal consistently delights and surprises travelers that think they've seen all that Western Europe has to offer. Portugal vacation rentals also tend to shock travelers, as the country is home to beachfront apartments, hilltop villas and charming bungalows that offer a value and experience that hotels simply cannot compete with.

Where to Rent Portugal Vacation Rentals

With so many different regions, finding where you want to stay can be a challenge. The Algarve is the country's southern tip and is home to some of its most beautiful coastlines and golf courses, while the island of Sao Miguel is home to the wondrously lush Lagoa das Sete Citades. Portugal is also home to several mountainous regions, including Mount Pico in the Azores, and the Serra da Estrela mountain range where travelers can even enjoy skiing. As such, choosing among Portugal vacation rentals depends in large part on where one wants to stay and on what one's priorities are, although no matter where one stays, Portuguese warmth and hospitality is sure to sign through.

The Best Time to Rent Portuguese Vacation Rentals

Portuguese vacation rentals represent an excellent value for travelers, especially if you're travelling outside of August. Often, reserving in off-peak months ensures that you can save as much as 50% off the price of the rental, especially if you're renting in the springtime or in the autumn, when the climate is still moderate but the number of tourists is low. Since much of Europe travels in August, though, the country tends to fill up at this time, so if you do intend on visiting then and appreciating the excitement that this month has to offer, you're advised to book early. Traveling in June or July, though, will allow travelers to experience the summer heat and swim in warm waters as well, though, so if you're looking for a quieter, more value-laden summer holiday, traveling during these months is a good idea.
