Anchorage

Overview

3 6 3

Anchorage is located within the prestigious Sandy Lane Estate. Guests have access to Clubhouse facilities, beach chairs, cushions, umbrellas and tennis courts.

Anchorage is a single story residence and sits in its own acre/half hectare grounds at the western end of the Sandy Lane Estate just a stone's throw from the hotel and the private property owners beach. It is bright and airy and has excellent quality furnishings throughout. The house is fully alarmed which is linked to a round the clock monitoring station.

Anchorage has a permanent housekeeper who is an excellent cook and who will take care of your every need six days a week (sadly you have to fend for yourselves on Sundays). She will prepare breakfast and a light lunch (other meals by arrangement) as well as taking care of all the laundry including personal items.

Geoffrey is our dedicated gardener who keeps the grounds in immaculate condition. Thursdays is mowing day so it is advisable not to have too much to drink on Wednesday evening otherwise it could be "oh my head!".

The spacious vaulted living room is a blend of old Barbados mahogany furniture and coral stone with the more modern bamboo. The security louver shutters, which open fully on the north and south sides, give the room the feeling of total openness as either way the view is of the luscious gardens.

The marble dining table seats twelve and is ideal for formal entertaining. The twelve mahogany dining chairs and carvers have needlepoint seats, each of which is a different, very attractive, shell design.

There is a small television room off the living room which can also be used as an office. The Direct TV channels provide CNN, BBC News, ESPN, TNT, HBO and a variety of specialist channels. The office area has a fax machine, printer and a broadband connection.

All bedrooms are fully air conditioned. The large master bedroom, with its bright attractive fabrics, has two twin beds with mattresses that zip together to make one humongous double bed. It has its own double basin en suite bathroom with a very large shower. The second bedroom can also be made up as a twin or double and has its own bathroom with bath and shower opposite. The third bedroom has its own en suite bathroom with bath/shower and the beds can be made up as two singles or one double.

The large, covered outdoor patio overlooks the pool and it is where most guests relax when not by the pool enjoying the Barbados sun. At one end there is a dining area with a wrought iron table that comfortably seats six, and is ideal for breakfast, lunch and informal dining in the evenings.

At the other end is comfortable informal seating for eight and is the perfect setting for reading your novel out of the sun during the day and the ideal meeting place for drinks prior to meals.

The house is located in the middle of its own manicured one acre/half a hectare gardens. The lush tropical planting give guests total privacy with quiet shaded areas where one can enjoy a book, or alternatively lie by the pool perfecting the sun tan on any one of the six loungers. The property boasts eighteen different species of Palms including two rare varieties, which are of great interest among the locals.

Less than five minutes walk or two minutes drive away from Anchorage is one of the best beaches in Barbados and this is where the Sandy Lane property owners private beach facility is located immediately adjacent to the famous Sandy Lane Hotel. Here there is a small private Cabana, which houses a fridge for cold drinks and six beach loungers and four chairs. There are outdoor showers as well as toilet facilities. The Sandy Lane Hotel water sports facility is adjacent should you wish to water ski or sail.

Location

Sandy Lane, Barbados

Barbados is a beautiful island on the eastern tip of the Caribbean. Its most famous asset is, of course, its white-sand beaches and azure sea, both of which combine to produce some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Those looking to simply relax by the beach tend to prefer the Caribbean side, which is located in the south and west of the island and offers calm, warm, light-blue water. Those looking to surf or windsurfing, though, will prefer the waves of the Atlantic waters on the east side.

Nightlife and dancing lovers, meanwhile, would be wise to stay near all the action on the St Lawrence Gap, which offers a wide variety of local performances such as the famously colourful Tuk band, known to wow audiences with their skills on the bass drum, kettle drum, and penny whistle. Our wide selection of Barbados luxury vacation rentals may help make your stay complete, but, no matter where you stay, you will enjoy access to pristine beach fronts, world-class golf courses, duty-free shopping, and a wide range of entertainment options.

DINING
Barbados boasts an exquisite selection of restaurants offering a wide array of culinary specialties. Ranging from delicious local dishes to international cuisine prepared by some of Europe and the Caribbean’s top chefs, Barbados dining choices are seemingly endless.

The West Coast is home to many of the island's most popular dining spots, including five-star restaurants, quaint local eateries and specialty restaurants offering an assortment of cosmopolitan flavours, including Asian, Indian, Italian and French-inspired menus. In recent years the South Coast has also seen a boom in fine dining facilities, and you can find many local favourites nestled among the hotels and entertainment venues.

During the day most establishments accept casual attire, however visitors should keep in mind that Barbados is a conservative island and appropriate cover-ups and shoes are required, even at the beach bars. In the evening, a more formal dress code is expected, however a dinner jacket is not required.

While most restaurants accept walk-in guests, it is recommended that reservations be made, especially during the winter season and on weekends when business is heaviest. Not all establishments open for both lunch and dinner so it is best to check with concierge to ensure your dining preferences can be accommodated.

A nominal gratuity is often included in the bill, especially for larger parties; however it is at the discretion of the guest to increase or decrease the amount as they deem appropriate.

GOLF
Royal Westmoreland Golf Course
Royal Westmoreland features a world-class 6,870-yard 18-hole championship course with spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea, well-maintained greens and beautiful tropical surrounding. The par-72 course offers a challenging set-up, with the par threes renowned as some of the best in the world. The course is studded with bunkers, some taking advantage of the natural environment, including a coral stone quarry between the 5th and 6th hole and a ravine bordering a tight green at the 12th hole. Each hole is designed to accommodate a range of player expertise.

Sandy Lane Golf Club
With spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea, verdant greens and vivid tropical blooms and lush gullies lining the fairways, Sandy Lane Golf Club is renowned as one of the most stunning courses in the Caribbean. Part of the 5-star Sandy Lane Resort, the Country Club strives to provide players with a golfing experience like none other. The first course designed outside the United States by distinguished course architect Tom Fazio, the Country Club features open fairways, angled slopes and five lakes. With five par threes, eight par fours and five par five holes, the 7,060-yard course provides a challenging experience for professional and amateur golfers alike. In 2006 the Country Club hosted the World Golf Championships World Cup, a four-day tournament attended by international players and spectators alike.
