Tipping culture in Tulum is largely the same as in the United States. Restaurant servers are usually 15%-20%, though some restaurants add the tip, called the “propina” to the bill already. Baggage handlers are typically tipped $1-$2 per bag. Housekeepers are usually tipped $2-$5 per day per bedroom, though a larger tip should be given if the room is unusually messy. Fur fully-staffed villas, 10% of the rental rate, given in cash at the end of the trip, is customary. Taxi drivers are not usually tipped. Tips can be given in either US Dollars or Mexican Pesos, though please note that US coins cannot be changed, even at the bank.
