Ti Punch – St. Bart’s, St. Martin
The Ti Punch is popularly served in French speaking Caribbean states – especially St. Bart’s and St. Martin. It’s traditionally served before a meal with the ingredients simply laid out so everyone can create the drink to their own preference.
Ingredients:
2 ounces Rhum Agricole
Fresh Lime Juice
Cane Sugar – 1 teaspoon
Ice (optional)
Directions: Mix the rum, sugar, and a squeeze of lime in a small tumbler glass until the sugar is dissolved. Add 1-2 ice cubes if you prefer to sip it, although ice is not always used in the drink.
Bajan Punch – Barbados
This classic Caribbean cocktail has been around since the 19th century. Bajan literally translates to “from Barbados”, and it’s the most common punch you’ll find on the island.
Ingredients:
½ ounce lime juice
1 ½ ounces dark rum
1 ounce simple syrup
3 ounces water
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
Freshly grated nutmeg (optional)
Directions: Stir all ingredients together and pour over ice in a cocktail glass. Garnish with a slice of lime…enjoy!
Planters Punch – Jamaica
The Planter’s Punch is a popular cocktail you can miss in the hands of both locals and tourists in Jamaica. It was born in the 19th century and was previously known as the Jamaican Rum Punch and the Planter’s Cocktail #2.
Ingredients:
3 ounces dark rum
1 ounce lime juice
½ ounce grenadine
½ ounce lemon juice
½ teaspoon sugar
Directions: Stir well with ice and pour into a tall glass filled with cracked ice. Garnish with a slice of citrus – don’t forget a straw!
Painkiller Cocktail – British Virgin Islands
Rumor has it that the Painkiller cocktail was first created in 1970 at the Soggy Dollar Bar in White Bay, British Virgin Island. Since then it has evolved into a signature Caribbean cocktail enjoyed in the BVI and surrounding travel destinations.
Ingredients:
2 ounces dark rum
4 ounces pineapple juice
1 ounce cream of coconut
1 ounce juice
Nutmeg for garnish
Directions: Shake or stir all ingredients and pour over ice. Garnish with a sprinkle of nutmeg.
